Trail Etiquette

Click here to read Ontario Parks article on Trail Sharing. Photos from our very own Mursphy’s Point were used to illustrate the article. We’re famous!

For a full description click on the link but here, in a nutshell, are the five key rules of trail sharing etiquette:

  • Read the signs
  • Don’t hike or snowshoe on groomed ski surfaces
  • On unmaintained trails, don’t hike or snowshoe on ski tracks
  • Share the trail
  • Stay safe

AGM Wrap-Up

The trails have been cleared and debrushed, the snow machines are ready go, the Loppet plans are underway, and the finances are in good shape. These are a few of things members learned at Monday night’s Annual General Meeting at the Perth & District Indoor Pool. In addition to the usual business of reviewing last year’s minutes, members re-elected Drew Lampman as President and Phill Brackenbury as Vice-president. To kick off the meeting, Trevor Choffe, AKA Perth Fire Chief, spoke about his Everest Marathon adventure from last May. His running partner, Dave Peters, was also present to add detail to the talk. The adventure sounded particularly difficult but the scenery along the running route was stunning. A few photos are posted below. Congratulations to these adventurous athletes for their tremendous accomplishment and for raising $59,000 for cancer.

Ski Trail Prep

Cross Country Ski Trail Preparation Work Party Needed!
When: 8 am to 12 noon on Saturday, October 26

Everyone is invited for a walk along at beautiful Murphys Point Provincial park to prepare trails for the upcoming winter season. We will meet at the front gate at 8 am and split into small groups to walk the trail and clear sticks/ debris, make note of any larger limbs/tress that need to be removed and start discussing and dreaming about the upcoming ski season. This is a great way to get involved in the club and meet other members! Dress for the weather and bring water, gloves and any pruning tools you might have (loppers, small handsaws, etc.).

Contact Phill Brackenbury at pcbrackenbury@gmail.com if you have would like to participate.

Win a birch bark canoe

The Friends of Murphys Point are raffling a beautiful handmade birch bark canoe on Oct. 14, 2019. Funds raised will support future Indigenous programming at the park. The poster below outlines how you can get your ticket. Please consider supporting our friends, the Friends of Murphys Point!

Website grooming underway

We have fired up the Website groomers! They are hard at work getting the site ready for the new season. And like trail grooming, it can take some time.

It may look different every time you visit, some links may not work, some pages may not have any content…but don’t be dismayed, the pages and posts will be in good shape come ski season.

Thanks for your understanding and patience!
